Project background

Back to 2013 with the idea that, as Thailand, we are the major center of Buddhism in the world. Thailand should be a good book on Theravada Buddhism, in a nutshell, spreading in lodgings and hotels around the country by jointly making it on the occasion of the auspicious celebration, namely, 2,600 years since the Buddha’s enlightenment, the 100th birthday anniversary of His Holiness Somdet Phra Sangharaja Chao Krom Luang Vajirananasamvara (Charoen Suvaddhano), the 19th Supreme Patriarch of the Kingdom of Thailand, and the 84th birthday anniversary of His Majesty Phrabat Somdet Phra Paraminthara Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX). By the Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives Foundation (BIA), Aradhana Nimon, Ajahn Jayasaro (Phra Thep Bajranyanamuni) compiled in question-and-answer form on the teachings of Theravada Buddhism. In Thailand, 125 articles (for a total of 250 pages) have been published under the title of Without and Within.

Today, more than 100,000 copies have been published, with support for publishing from many parties, such as government and corporate organizations.  It has received cooperation from hotel- accommodation organizations, and is provided for tourists who have visited Thailand, at more than 300 locations in 40 provinces nationwide. In addition to various organizations, this book has also received attention from the public, who have donated and contributed to theprinting, distributing, and disseminating the Dhamma book to interested people, as well as being widely available in libraries, temples, and Buddhist learning centers, both in Thailand and abroad.

In 2021,  to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives Foundation (BIA) , and in cooperation with the Ajahn Jayasaro and Panyaprateep Foundation,  we have published a pocketbook size in English, Chinese, and Portuguese; and there are upcoming plans for more editions in Thai, Spanish, Russian, and French. This is tosupport the dissemination to people who speak different languages but are interested in Theravada Buddhism.

For those who wish to support  ‘Without and Within’ the principles are as follows:

Even though the impact of COVID-19 around the world, BIA still plans to coordinate with other organizations such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tourism Authority of Thailand, leading hospitals, in  the hopes of further enhancing the role of bridge of merit to various goals, both domestically and internationally. We do this urgently, because we fully understanding that this life is short, but very important, and the gift of Dhamma surpasses all other gifts.

It is hoped that the dissemination of ‘without and within’ will continue to benefit the public at large as best befits the words of Somdet Phra Buddhaghosacariya (P. A. Payutto).

“as a gift of Dhamma that will disseminate knowledge, understanding, and righteousness, contributing to true and lasting happiness shared among people all over the world.”

“The gift of Dhamma surpasses all other gifts.” (Dhp 354)
